"(ie. no packing salty boards on the floor between the seats and dinging the head liner trying to get said boards in and out of the van)." If my board is still salty wet, then i actually prefer to carry it inside my van becouse the salt will make the vanagon's seams rust REAL fast. I bought my westy in San Diego, surfed almost every day and afterwords i would strap my salty longboard to the surf racks. did this for a year and the vans seams just exploded with rust. Id really wash your boards down before going the surf rack route. Phil 84' Westy w/Tiico
