I've been using the Fram filters occasionally for years. Now the Tough
Guard series is available in TG2870A. It has improved high temperature
components and filter media. It is now in the FUNBUS and Audi 100S.

Group,
I know this is going to be blasphemous, but after a significant amount
of research, I found enough evidence to convince me that the premium
Purolator PureOne oil filters are an excellent substitute for the
exalted Mann filters. And much better than the Champion-made US Bosch
filters. The valve design and filter capacity are equal to or better
than the german made filters. They even work flawlessly in my RX-7's
where the filter is mounted completely upside down. They are not
necessarily cheaper, but you can get them at Advance Auto. (and most
other FLAPS) I use DexCool, too. These have been my standards for my
current westy for the over 50 k miles that it has lived with me. It
seems happy now, after suffering greatly from abuse at the hands of
german scientists and redneck mechanics in its earlier lives. We just
got back from a 2000 mile adventure to upstate New York and back.
