>Do these truly exist, are they an adaptable replacement for a 4-speed in an >'85 Westie? They were stock on all 1.9 & 2.1 buses sold everywhere but USA, it seems (dunno about the aircooled 1.6s though!). My 84 was standard 5-speed (the 094 trans). >Does the fifth gear provide a better ratio for highway cruising, or is this >tranny to give better lo-range torque? Not really. 1st is a crawler gear, and I found it useless for on-road driving. If 5th is tsaller than an 091/1 4th (4-speed), it'll be marginally. 1984 gas 094 ratios (1st-5th): 4.11 2.33 1.48 1.02 0.77 I doubt the 094 is any strongger than the 091/1. -- Andrew Grebneff Dunedin, New Zealand 64 (3) 473-8863 <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Fossil preparator Seashell, Macintosh & VW/Toyota van nut |
