Thanks for your responses The release bearing was replaced about 500 miles ago, along with the new clutch. You did remember to put the clutch release bearing in the replacement tranny didn't you? The bolts seem correctly tightened but I could not get the torque wrench on two of them (no clearance). The bracket does not appear to flex. Sounds to me like you have a loose bolt holding the slave cylinder to the transmission..........seen this before.
