My '75 Rabbit is stripped for the track and weighs 1800 lbs dry. The trailer weighs another 800 easy. The tongue weight is what will raise the nose of the Vanagon up a bit, shouldn't be more than 10% of the total weight. I think you can fudge the total weight numbers, but not by 1000 lbs.
