I sleep with my head towards the back. The reason is I'm tall, and while I don't mind my feet poking over the edge, having my head hanging over the edge is no fun. ;) I tend to sleep down there when I'm camping alone even though the top bunk is longer, because the air circulation is better (in warm weather) or it holds heat better (in cold weather).
