Howdy Gruppe,

I do not have a manual for this beast and am having trouble identifying the correct air and oil filter and the oil pressure sensor, so, I have a question - what displacement and type of engine do I have? VIN is WV2ZZZ242GH116974 (yes that is the European VIN, the check digit is not used.

The oil pressure sensor is on the head at the rear of the engine. The sensor has a flat mating surface just an eighth of an inch around the threads - 10mm fine. The sensor is leaking under pressure and spewing oil all over the rear of the engine compartment. When I went to my FLAPS and asked for the filters and sensor they kept bringing out a sensor with a conical mating surface - same threads and length but different mating surface. I told them that I had an 86 Vanagon Diesel with a 1.6 engine but they kept bringing out the wrong air filter and sensor. This calls the engine model into question in my mind.

There is a rusty canister about one and a half times the length of a standard oil filter on the top after portion of the engine. The canister is attached to what must be a water related housing - two hoses coming off it - and has a rubber coated knob on the bottom of it. A number is on the canister - H17 W05 - but I cannot read the name of the manufacturer.

Any help?
