I made up a fitting that attached to the radiator bleed bolt that ran to a
vacuum/30 psi gauge. I wanted to see what the system pressure actually ran
at during normal driving. It ran higher than I thought, reaching 14 psi
when hot, near, or at the set point of the pressure cap. I assume there
was some push over into the overflow tank? A useful tool for leak
testing, as you can watch it slowly drop off when the engine is shut down.
The fitting was made from a drilled out brass nut (5/16"?). I cross
drilled into one of the flats and soldered 1/8" copper tubing to it.
(Looked like a banjo fitting.) Pinched it under the bleed bolt with an
extra gasket to seal it. Ran the tubing up and pinched the gauge under the
wiper arm so I could see it from inside. Pressure surges with the rpms of
course. I had suggest using the turbo boost gauge for a permanent
installation as they typically go from full vacuum to a few bars pressure.
I don't recall seeing any vacuum, but I didn't stand there and watch it for
hours. I had to wait a long time before I could remove the fitting. 5 or
6 hours IIRC!

regarding using a vacuum/boost gauge to measure
pressure/suction in the coolant tank of the
2.1L...anybody ever rigged something like this up?
