Hey there,

The dealer is correct in that there are four pieces between the handle and the securing screw. It looks like you have the trim ring, and the pieces you are missing are the:

- 211-843-717 - spacer between the handle an inner lock; keeps the handle away from the door itelf. - 211-841-731 - seal for the lock itself - keeps water from squeezing between the lock and the housing and getting to your lock - 251-843-708 - some type of packing - not familiar with this one, can't say I ever saw one; the only thing I can think of, is that on some Vanagons I have seen a glued on rubber washer that goes on the door

All of these pieces are interchangeable with the late model Vanagons (with the exception of the trim ring itself), so it is not the case that late models only need one part.

Of these, you can probably go without them. The packing I would definitely say you don't need. The seal for the lock you should have. And the spacer is questionable. Your handle is probably not that close to your door anyway...
