The Santa Monica Mts. are part of the Transverse ranges and are east-west. http://members.aol.com/OnDaNose/Geology2/SMMGeo.html Santa Cruz Islans is part of the Northern Channel Islands and these are the peaks of an east-west mountain range. http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~kmgreen/ There are several other east-west ranges in the US and N. America, and you can find a pretty good list of them here: http://www.rain.org/~mkummel/stumpers/06nov98a.html Naturally the Hawaiian Islands are one of the US ones.
