Subject: Front A/C / Bazooka locations / list syndrome
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Hey all,
I wanted to just drop a note about each of these subjects at once since my
email availability is off and on...
The Front A/C system I posted about in my '83.5 Camper is indeed a Behr
system. I believe all parts of the system are located in the nose/glovebox
area of the van except the compressor which is in the engine bay. It
utilizes four dash vents, two where the stereo normally is, and one on the
left and right near the front doors. There is another control panel mounted
below the standard vanagon climate controls. it has two fan controls, and a
knob to adjust how cold it blows...not sure why there are two fan controls,
but the Behr manual suggests always running them both on anytime the A/C is
on.
It doesn't blow through the defroster vents, or the footwells.
Oh yeah, my stereo is mounted vertically in a plastic "cradle" mount screwed
to the dash in front of the shifter. (anyone know a source for these plastic
mounts?, mine is cracked...)
As far as the Bazooka stuff, I just installed an 8" self-powered tube in my
van as well. I put it under the rear seat on the passenger side of the rear
heater core. It isn't the ideal location, as was mentioned, the best place
would be behind the rear seat, but it just fit sooooo perfectly under the
seat...and is totally hidden. I'm not totally satisfied with it's
performance, but hey, i got it for $35 on ebay. It does sound pretty damn
good when I am just chillin' in the van with just the rear vanagon speakers
and the sub on.
I've wanted to install some satellite Bose Acoustimass style speakers in the
ceiling in place of the stock vanagon speakers...but haven't found anything
that will work well...anyone else try this?
And finally, I'd like to quickly comment on the "List Syndrome" that was
mentioned. Although not totally pervasive, this is definitely a real thing
in my opinion. Although I have not owned my vanagon all that long, for a
little while I came to really loathe my 1.9 WBX (esp. when the lifters were
clacking at me all the time)...but now that i've quieted them down, I've
really come to enjoy and accept it for what it is.
It's kinda like, "love the one you're with"...if ya know what i mean :)
sorry for the long rant...but I don't do it too often.
Have a great day all.
-James
