Two Listees correctly identified I-39/90/94 in WI. (The rest of you likely
spend most of your time on lonely back roads testing out Boge, Bilstein, and
Old Man Emu shocks.)
There is one more location where 3 interstates run concurrently. Just
think about this infamous movie quote from a 1983 (or thereabouts) road trip
epic, "What's the difference, as long as we get to the other side of the
river?"
My wife has suggested that I dispense with this silly quiz and just give
away all of my Vanagon garage treasures, but that concept has been referred
to committee for further consideration.
Good luck to all current and future entrants. The quiz will close around
dinnertime on 7-26-03, with the deserving winner to be announced after I
finish my weekend household chores.
Note: It seems to be a strange twist of fate that my home contains a water
shut-off valve that was obviously engineered similarly to the heater
shut-off valve found above the spare tire of our favorite vehicles. Well,
at least I have plenty of practice in changing these so-called shut-off
valves.
Regarding the discussion about intrastate interstates, the following should
be a complete list of two digit interstates that exist wholly within one
state (excepting the Hawaiian routes as indicated by another Listee).
AZ I-17, I-19
TX I-27, I-37, I-45
LA I-12
FL I-4
GA I-16
VA I-66
MD I-97
PA I-99
NY I-87, I-88**
IL I-88**
** I-88 does not cross a state line, but has distinct segments in IL
and NY

Okay all of you Vanagon junkies, here's a question to test your USA highway
knowledge.
Please indicate any locations where at least 3 interstate highways (2 and/or
3 digit designation) run concurrently. This does not include interchanges
where these roads cross, start, or stop.
Hint: There are at least two correct answers.
The only rule is that you must attest, on your honor as a Vanagon Listee,
that your answer is not influenced by any reference material. This is a
current trivia knowledge test.
All correct entries will be eligible for a drawing for some Vanagon goodies
from my garage stash and will be publicly recognized on the List. The
decision of the Quizmaster is final.
