If you (or anyone else) ever has to charge a AC system from scratch, you'll find that the compressor will not kick in, until a certain minimum pressure exists (that's what one of those switches in the cabinet/pillar is for). Great fun (read that as anxiety) watching the pressure go (apparently) too high (50psi in my case) on the low side, before the switch registers sufficient pressure and allows the compressor to kick in. Never have this problem when just recharging, only that first time of adding freon to a freshly evacuated system.
