Since you offered this suggestion, perhaps you have an idea of how deep is too deep when drilling a perpendicular pilot hole into a battery post. I was tempted to do that once and while I have dissected many things just out of curiosity, a lead-acid battery has escaped my scalpel. So, I have no firsthand experience regarding the unseen dimensions of a battery post.
