assuming dwell meter is accurate, and set for 4 cyl engine, try reducing
gap slightly, adjusting until dwell is at spec. by decreasing gap, points
open later and dwell angle increases. greater dwell angle will have
realtively little effect at low rpm, but a bigger effect as rpm goes up
because then there is less and less time for current to build up in coil
primary.

as dwell angle increases and points open later, timing will be retarded,
idle rpm will likely go down a bit, and so an iterative process adjusting
dwell angle, engine rpm and timing is necessary.
