So just out of curiosity, why didn't you just pull up the slack in the top? That's how i got all the slack out of my canvas (had to pull a couple inches through all the way around to get a nice tight fit...). I was kind of concerned that you would notice, but you really can't see unless you are specifically looking for it (which no one does). I had the screw-in aluminum strips in my '84, though, which may be easier than the staple strips...

Does the pop-top still seal against the body?

The extra sleeping room is kind of cool, though...
