My lame but important addition to traveling in Alaska -- WEAR A WATCH!! You will have no idea what time it is, because it is light all the time. My wife and I were sitting in a dive bar in Anchorage, hanging out with a couple of folk from Hawaii (...?...), and I had not been watching my watch. It was still light outside, I look at my watch and it was 11 PM already! Whoa! That one snuck up on me, I thought it was maybe 8 PM judging by the sky.

Also, if you plan on sleeping, get one of those cheesy eye-masks, you'll need it. I don't remember it getting 'dark' at all up north.
