If this is an 86-91 Vanagon then I would look up front around the spare tire carrier area. They have a problem with the long plastic pipes breaking apart in this area. Originally they had metal ends pressed into the plastic. Over time the plastic breaks down and the metal separates from the plastic. Then they start leaking. The only way to confirm this is to either see it leaking from there, or pull the hoses off of the ends of the plastic pipes and inspect the ends. We have started doing this every time someone comes in for a rebuilt engine or head work. Almost every time one of the two pipes is broken. Just FYI.

I'm losing coolant and can't figure out where it is going - no leaks that I can detect. I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to how to figure this out - when the coolant gets low enough I get air lock and it runs hot. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe
