Dear Folks, Volks, Freaks and Geeks,

Thank you for responding to my earlier post this week about the alternator light coming on. In response to your help, I wanted to clarify a few questions and tell you the results, as perhaps this information may be of help to you in the future.

RECAP: My alt light was coming on at high revs. Most noticeably, it would start to glow at 60 mph and be fully lit at 70 mph. I had just had the engine rebuilt in January, so the belt was good and tight.

I took the vehicle to a different mechanic than the one who originally told me my alternator tested fine, and it turns out my brushes were floating. This guy more than just tested it, he took it apart. I decided to replace the whole dang alternator unit as a preventive measure, since it would eventually go anyway. I mean, let's see: since an engine rebuild in January, it's been in the shop every month since (first those long plastic coolant hoses running from front to back, then the radiator, then the main crank seal, then the temp sensor, then the oxygen sensor, bla, bla, bla).

Conclusion: My VW isn't really a van, or a bus or any mode of transportation of any sort. It's a money pit.

Love and Rockets, DaBomb

FYI my current e-mail address is down. I can send messages out, but I cannot receive at this time.
