Sure that will work and fit as long as you have the unique Vanagon engine parts like the manifolds and downpipe, etc. The '80 Dasher had a 1.5 l. Seems like there was an earlier post about differences between the diesel blocks that went into the Vanagons, and the ones that went into the sedans. Don't know how the diff's. might affect the longevity.
