Hi,

First, are you sure the excessive noise is not just the fan on HIGH speed? It was several months after I got my '86 Westy before my fan kicked in on high speed for the first time. I thought the damn thing was going to fly out the front end...Very loud. That's the way they are.

If that's not the case, well, mine began making a bunch of noise after I'd had it a couple years. I pulled the fan out, pulled off the blade and cleaned off all the mud and crap that had gotten packed in the blade, and on the front of the motor. I then lubed the front bearing as much as possible (with light machine oil) and reinstalled it. It's worked fine since (~6 years, and 60K miles), so you might want to try it. Good luck,

Keith Hughes
