I don't know what type of power plant or the amount of sound insullation you have in your van but my engine purrs and often times I need to rev it up a little to make sure it's still running since I still haven't fixed my tach yet. Nonetheless thanks for your input and I can assure you that the sub is not so I can rock the world outside my space it's only going to enhance the listening experience inside my quiet Westy.......and unless you live in the East Bay, San Francisco you and your home will be spared......

Seriously, as a guy who developed curriculum materials on sound induced
hearing loss, I'd advise against it. You only get two ears. Once you
blow them with an over testosteroned stereo, you don't get a second set.
If the rationale is that you like music, then think about the frequency
loss you will induce in your cochlea's (inner ear) and how that will
affect your ability to enjoy music, talk on the phone, enjoy
conversation with women etc. Hmmm ... Might be some advantages there,
as in not being able to hear certain women.

Actually, I can't think of a worse place to listen to music than a
Vanagon. Too much ambient noise as is! By the time you crank it enough
to hear above the BG, you're into danger dB levels.
