I'm going to make a suggestion (not having tried it on a Westfalia sticker yet). Freeze spray. We use this on pinball machines to get mylar and decals off of pinball playfields without damaging the (sometimes) delicate paint the mylar or decals are covering. Essentially what you do is get a can of compressed air, invert it so that the liquid comes out instead of air and spray the liquid on the decal. Be careful as the liquid is cold and could cause frostbite. After spraying for a short while start lifting up the edge of the decal. If it starts sticking again spray some more. Note not all compressed air products will work. I've had good sucess with "PerfectData's PerfecDuster" which comes in a blue bottle. I did not have sucess with Falcon "Dust-Off". This technique has one benefit in that if you are trying to PRESERVE the decal (for later reuse) this is a good way to get it off in one piece. After removal of the decal I use Naptha to remove the remaining glue. Again, please note I have not tried this on Vanagons.
