Assuming you are a car nut.......and you are heading down the autobahn towards Basel, make a right before the border and go to Mulhouse, home of the "Musée National de l'Automobile" also known as the Schlumpf collection. Plan on spending the better part of a day there. World's largest collection of Bugattis. A not to miss experience!!!! Good restaurant in-house. see this French site for info. http://www.culture-espaces.com/schlumpf/accueil.html Also in Mulhouse is the Musée Nationale de l'Chemin de Fer, or National Railway Museum. which houses among other wonders, Michelin clad, Bugatti powered railliners. (same engine as the Royalé) If you are anywhere near Sinsheim, check out the Museum of technology there. In Koln, the cathedral is a must see and the Nurburgring is close by. I think you can still buy a lap in your westy! On your way south, Strasbourg is a beautiful city. For scenery, get off the autobahn and take the Schwartzwalderhochstrasse. (Black Forest High Road) Exit for Baden Baden (beautiful in it's own right) to get on it. Coming back, cross the Rhine and drive up through Alsace. Great wine country with marvelous restaurants in the small villages! The maginot line runs throughthere as well. I can't remember where but there is a large underground fort open to visitors. Very interesting. Buy a Michelin Green Guide (in English). They are the absolute best guide town by town, as you head out. You will not lack for things to see and do. The best thing is that you are driving, not tied to a railcar. If you see something interesting, turn off the main road and have a look. Life is short, Fill it up! Envious as H---!! I lived there 20 years ago and loved it!!!
