Subject: oil pump sealants?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

What is the proper way to seal up the oil pump upon installation? Both cover to pump, and (more enigmatically to me) pump to case. The archives had little to say on this subject.

On a related note, i have two oil pumps: a used german oil pump that seems to be in excellent shape (only light swirl patterns on the pump and cover), and... a new high-flow brazilian "Schadek" 30mm pump

My concern is that the 30mm pump fits much more loosely in the case than the used one that came out of the (new to me) engine. The casting seems a bit more rough on the brazilian pump, too, but i might be trying to come up with excuses... I'm thinking i'm going to stick with the original one, keeping the new one as a backup, but wondered if the list had any opinions on this.

Thanks much, oh list gods, -damon
