Subject: 1987 Syncro for sale: read the sad story and come to my rescue....
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=WINDOWS-1252; format=flowed

greetings vanagon listers:

ok so i have a sad story for you and i hope that my bad luck will be good luck for someone else.

i am the proud owner of a 1987 vanagon syncro. i have had it for a year

exactly and it has been great.

well, i am a total nice guy and i need to learn better how to say 'no'

to my friends – case in point: a friend came to me and asked if he could use the van for a day to move

some furniture, i was busy so i couldn't drive and i grilled the guy for about 5 minutes 'you can drive a stick, rite? are you sure you can

drive the van? its a stick shift, is that ok?' and he assured me that

he would not have a problem handling it. so i said 'ok' what will it hurt to do my friend a favor.

well i found out, the guy totally ruined the clutch in my van. well, i

tried to keep my cool and went over to check it out, i called AAA and had them tow it to the shop so they could check it out (the clutch pedal was just totally locked up)

ok so to fast forward: I can not afford to repair the van. the garage wants $1100 to do it which seems very expensive, another guy told me $650, but i have to somehow get it to him and he doesn't take credit cards which would be my only option.

i would love to sell the van to another vanagon aficionado and just cut

my losses.

I live in NYC, the van is currently at a repair place in Queens. I have some photos of it, and the van has super documentation on its repair history. Its been a great car for me for the year i've had it and we all know how cool they are.

the odometer is at about 215k (i cant remember exactly) i recently (within the last 2 months) replaced the alternator and battery. the previous owner replaced most of the front end. currently the drive-shaft is out of the van as the viscous coupling is

locked up on it (dennis haynes gave it a nice tune up last year after i

got it) the body is in fair condition and the interior is in excellent condition. everyone loves my van..

off the top of my head, i would love to get $1500 for the van as it is... but i am open to whatever offers.

please email me if you are interested and i will forward fotos and whatever other information i can.

ok, thanks for all the support and enthusiasm over the last year and i

would love to pass on the syncro to another enthusiast.

best regards and thanks for your time,

jackson harvell
