You did not say which year has the problem. If the 87, it is probably
coming from the 'coolant low level warning' part of the circuit. In 87
models, any time the coolant level is sensed low for several seconds the
led will start to blink and won't stop until the key is turned off.
Remove the relay with the large '43' stamped on the top and see if the
problem stops. If it does cease, you will know that it has nothing to do
with engine temp but comes from the coolant low sensing circuit. If it
still does it with 43 out, then you have a problem with the gauge, or
with the temp sender, or with the wiring for one of them.

The 82 does not have a relay '43' and the problem would have to be with
the gauge, or with the temp sender, or with the wiring for one of them.
