I recently dropped the gas tank and posted the procedure to the list.  I,
too, was getting a strong gas smell after fill-up, though I wasn't
experiencing and leaking that I could see.  It turned out that all the lines
and seals for the gas tank proper were fine - though I replaced everything
anyway - and the gas smell was due to the badly deteriorated gaskets that
secure the check valves to the two overflow tanks.  Check these first before
dropping the gas tank, since it's a heck of a lot easier.
