Subject: 110 volt AC in Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I'm using a GE 5000 btu 110 volt AC (window type) in my Westy. We used it the first time at Moroso Raceway (near West Palm Beach, FL) a couple weeks ago. It was around 95-100 degrees in the sun and in the high 80's in the shade (90% humidity). With the help of a couple of small 12 volt fans to circulate the air, it got so cold we had to turn the AC down. We were parked in the shade for most of the day and we closed most of our curtains to keep the interior cooler. I mounted mine in the poptop screen window. I am updating my website (I keep adding more stuff to it) and there will be pictures and explanations regarding my setup. I'm hoping to have it updated by the end of the week.

Also, anyone that wants to mount their window unit in the front window (either side), I built a frame out of 3/4 inch electrical conduit, aluminum strap and 5/8" plywood. It breaks down or sets up in about 10 minutes and it is self-supporting. Two of the legs sit on the ground outside the van and two sit inside the van. I decided not to use it because I was concerned about leaving the van unattended for hours and it would be too easy for someone to break into the van and/or steal the AC unit. I didn't make a hood around it to seal in the AC unit around the window (never got that far), but it wouldn't be hard.

If anyone is interested in buying it, I would sell it for $35 + shipping (from central Florida).

P-mail me for pictures and specifics.
