I don't know about Bus Depots spacers, but I bought spacers from a place called Autotech.com and I think they go for about $30. For some reason--I assume limited production--they're pricely little devils. The spacers I got are black and made of plastic. As a result the first set of all plastic spacers, when attached to the stock window crank which has metal spline recievers, eventually chewed through the plastic. The Autotech spacers recommend crazy glue or similar glue to glue the plastic to the window cranks and then install them. Problem is the metal on the crank didn't really bond all that well with the plastic spacer. On the next purchase of the $30 spacers I installed them with VW Fox window cranks from a junk yard. The Fox cranks are all plastic and when glued to the the spacers have functioned fine for about 3 years with no separation. The Fox cranks look better then the rather cheap looking stock cranks in my opinion. The Fox cranks were available in brown as I've seen them in wrecking yards on occassion-I don't know if the VW dealer can still get new brown cranks as I've never looked. Again these handles are all plastic. Catch is the Auto tech spacers are only available in black as far as I know. I'm not familiar with Ron's spacers personally, but like I said the $20 sounds better than the $30 plus shipping I paid. Without the spacers my cranks would not clear the door mounted speakers, so a necessity for me. The Bus Depot only sells black and I'd like to get brown ones to match the original. Anyone have some or know of a source for new? And while we're on the subject ---- has anyone bought the "window handle spacers from Ron? I was going to pickup a set to go with my new handles --- but at $21.95 for two spacers I'd like to know what makes them worth that much money --- considering that the handles are only a couple of bucks each. >> |
