This vanagon is two blocks from my house so I walked
over to have a look. I only looked, did not touch or
enter the rig.
The vehicle is ex US Navy, and has no plates, license
plate brackets, inspection stickers or other
indications of being registered in the US. A piece of
paper on the dashboard blocks the VIN from view. A GSA
sticker on the dash has basic GSA sale info, including
the notation "NORUN".
Walkaround: Seam rust throughout, rockers rusted
through, bed floor has small rust perforations
allowing water to drain, 2 sq in rust hole in front
where lower windshield seal has failed. Surface rust
in wear areas -like the tops of the pickup gates. As a
Navy vehicle, this could have been operated in a salt
water environment for many years: general appearance
is consistent those conditions.
Left side passenger window has been replaced with
plexiglas bolted in without seals. Load shifts in
pickup bed have dented floor, rear of cab and
tailgate.
Sideswipe on right hand side resulted in dents in both
passenger side doors. Dents on roof.
Interior consistent with significant use, brown waffle
weave look vinyl. Mileage not visible: blocked by
small picture or business card sitting in front of the
plastic.
Two tires are relatively new, Continental Contrans
which are not available on US market but do meet
appropriate specs 185x14 LR 102. Likely replaced by
Navy while still in Europe. One old tire unsafe due to
dry rot. Drag link and brake lines appear to be
recently replaced, however rest of front end shows dry
rotted rubber bushings throughout and will need
overhaul, shocks and springs are not recent.
The owner of repair shop states vehicle was brought in
for diagnosis: engine blown. He has done no other work
it, and is aware the owner is trying to sell it.
Any one have any further questions, let me know.
