I found a Malibu Barbie on the beach after the Fourth of July weekend in S. CA, so I glued it sitting on my bumper with it's arms extended, as if balancing, as a kind of bowspirit. It has it's bikini on. I've gotten many stange reactions from women who notice it: Obscene gestures, yelling and anger (Santa Cruz) Laughter, "Let's party (Garberville) Many weird looks Everything in between It's a kind of litmus test. Is Barbie a powerful symbol to the women of America? What does she mean? Is she the goddess I can never have, and the angry women can never be?
