Subject: Oil Leaks
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Volks,

Every time I think that I have my 84 Westy ready for prime time, something else goes wrong. Now its oil leaks. I just paid over $300 to have the front [transmission end] oil seal and 0 ring replaced. I'm still leaking oil. It seems to be coming from the rear [pulley end] oil seal.

Questions:

1. Can the rear oil seal be changed without pulling the engine? If so how much stuff do I have to take off.

2. Can someone send me a short step by step to do this job?

3. What are other likely sources of oil leaks and how should I correct them?

I really would like to take the Westy on a trip to the Smokey Mountains next weekend, but I'll have to be leak free before I go on a long trip.

TIA,

John Houser, Jr. Perry, GA 84 Westy
