Subject: Power Steering Problem 91 Syncro Camper

91 Syncro Camper, 155,000 miles

The power steering died away slowly over a period of 2 weeks of occasional driving. Steering takes a bit of effort, but sometimes part way through the turn it gets easier briefly. This is occurs particularly at slow speeds and while parking. Barely noticable at speed.

The power steering pump has no leaks and does not make noise while the pulley is turning, the drive belt is of appropriate tension, and there are no leaks in the power steering lines. The fluid level is appropriate, and has not changed.

Something that occured to me yesterday (and I cringed) is that maybe my viscous coupling is seizing.

Suggestions?

Michael
