'82 GL converted by PO to AT.  Runs perfectly, other than hesitation:

If I'm travelling at 55 and slow down to 35 to allow the car ahead to turn
right, when I hit the gas again to accelerate there is NOTHING.  I originally
just chalked it up as the 009 distributor.  So I put in a factory rebuilt 205,
timed it right at 7.5BTDC and set dwell at 50.

It behaves no differently at all.  No guts at all if you slow down to ~35
then NEED to accelerate to get back to the 55 mph speed limit.  It takes a good
15 seconds to go from 35 back to 55 on flat ground.  If I'm approaching a hill
I either have to make the right turn with that vehicle or hope the fast lane
is open.

I finally realized the AT is not downshifting on its own in this situation.
So, rpm's will be at an idle but I'll still be in 3rd. Just coming to a
stoplight it downshifts like butter.

Is this normal?  Should I manually shift it to 2nd then back to D?

Other than this complaint it drives like it is brand new. But, this scenario
almost makes it a hazard to those behind me.  5k miles on rebuilt engine.
