I used sandpaper and roughed-up the ball area on the mirror, then took a punch and hammered around on the ball and edge of the socket. I took a 700 mile round trip over the weekend, and the mirrors did not move. I noticed that the ball is metal; hopefully this will begin to rust and provide further stability to the troublesome mounting. This seemed to work for me.
