Subject: Breather tower & oil consumption
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

I have search the archives and I have learned a bit.

My (91 syncro) van is eating oil - a lot - down to the minimum level - then stops. If I fill the oil to the upper level of the stick, it will eat the oil in 500 kilometers. When the oil gets to the minimum level, it will stop eating the oil and just stay there.

I know it is comming from the oil breather tower as I have a carb on the van and I can take of the air filter (on top of the carb) and I can see the oil puddled in and around the carb top plate. The oil breather tower is NEW!

At one point I took off the tube from the oil breather tower and drove the van, the oil started dripping BADLY from the oil filler tube.

The archvies suggest that there is blow-by in the cylinders. I have had the compression checked and it is around 145 to 150 psi all around.

Anyother ideas???? Malcolm
