The BA-6 gas heater is nothing more than an engine without pistons. It could
have a mouse nest in it if it has sat a long time , otherwise check the fuel
lines and make sure the air intake under the rear seat isn't blocked.

DOn't start it over dry grass etc.

Give it a dry run for a few seconds after starting by unplugging one of the
fuel pump leads.
If both blowers whir, touch the fuel pump wire to the pump terminal
momentarily -a shot of gas will start combustion if the glow/spark plug is
working. When you are sure that you have no leaks -connect the wire back up
and turn the heater control knob to the 3 :00 position.

It should sound like a small jet engine and then cycle off-then back on.

If it makes you feel better have a fire extinguisher handy.
Keep one handy anyway- Vanagons burn too-

I just discovered my 1980 Westy has a heater booster (I wondered what that
green know was for...). Don't know if it works, have not tried it.

It seems like kind of a dangerous thing: fire hazard and CO poisoning.

But, it also seems like it would be handy for the winter camping trips.

So, does anyone have any thoughts on the use, safety, and maintenance of
this fire breather? (I read the section in Bentley on troubleshooting,
etc)
