Since being "challenged" at about 3 a.m. at the end of a 12 mi. dirt road by someone blinking their high beams at the front of my van; since coming across a black bear in the Sawtooth's out on that same dirt road, I now carry a "bear gun". 12 ga., pump, 6 shot, 18" barrel, pistol grip, slugs. Makes a lot of noise and hopefully that will do the trick. May be "influential" just by pumping it. Hope so. I'd probably forget to put my ear plugs in before firing it in the heat of the moment. I have a friend with horses who's family camps a week annually and they often run into similar "people problems", usually people drunk in the woods, and they carry a "bear stick" and gun. The stick is a shocking device, similar to a stun-gun used by police. Guess that's enough of this stuff on this thread. Bob Stevens '87 Syncro Westy "Ready" http://groups.msn.com/BobsPhotoShare
