I am not sure, but I believe the hole through which the pin goes is tapered. I know that the pins I have removed look tapered. I have had pins that refused to come out. Generally, they are inserted from the top, so that they cannot fall out. However, on one pin that refused to move, I tried beating it down instead of up - and it came right out.

Give it a try...
