James and Karl, The truth of the matter is that a lot of time is spent looking at that tailpipe when people are caught behind you and it is the last thing someone see when you leave. The muffler I got from busdepot whas pure quality but the tailpipe was pure crap. Could not even get the thing to fit so I sent it back and got one from VW. Paid a pretty penny for it but it was quality. Stinless steel with a hand weld that looked to be the work of a skilled craftman. If you got the money I would go vw on this and you will never need to change it again until the muffler gives up and then you can reuse it. gary Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2003 08:11:45 -0400 From: Karl Ploessl <ploessl@SUNMAC.SPECT.UPENN.EDU> Subject: Re: Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2003 08:11:45 -0400 From: Karl Ploessl <ploessl@SUNMAC.SPECT.UPENN.EDU> Subject: Re: tailpipe rusted already?

Volks, Maybe a stupid question...but is it normal for a less than 2 month old Bus Depot purchased tailpipe to be brown and "rusted" looking already??? I'm in coastal CA. The muffler is fine, and not discolored at all. Anyone know of a better quality tailpipe that's not too terribly expensive? thanks all. -james

I had the same experience. So it must be normal: two out of two.
