Hello, On our 1988 Wolfsburg we put a little pull string. Just tug and it opens! To answer youyr question, I have not seen a factory inside release.

RE: Inside rear hatch release I have only actually seen this on one vehicle, a friends '91 Synchro Westy. My '90 does not have it. On the '91 it is a small lever under a black plastic cap. Anyone ever see one of these before '91?
