Hi Mike,

I doubt that's true at all. OTOH, unless you have the "Dealer-installed" factory air (like I do on my '86 Westy), you'll get them done cheaper locally than buying from the dealer anyway. On mine, I have an SD-710 (IIRC)compressor, and no one could locate aftermarket fittings to mate with the compressor. Result? 2 hoses, $300 from the dealer.

> 2) Has anyone else had to do this?

Many times, on many vehicles. If the fittings are available, its almost always cheaper than dealer.

> What did the hose repair cost?

Anywhere from $30-100, depending on the fittings and hose lengths.

> Shouldn't they be able to give me a ballpark quote?

Yep.

> 3) If the compressor is shot too, what would a new (rebuilt) one cost?

$300-350 depending on the model you have.
