I used a standard Rhode gear trunk rack (the kind that is super adjustable and fits on most every car) to carry lots of bikes over lots of distance. I crammed 4 bikes on it (although designed for 3) and drove the Al-Can highway numerous times like that. Never let me down.

If my yakima experiment fails, i'll happily go back to that.

Find it used for like $30...
