If you set the odometer every time you fill up and have a pretty good idea of how much fuel you van should have used,you should be able to pretty much estimate how much fuel the tank should take to fill. That way,as the tank approaches the estimated fill required,you slow down ready to stop the nozzle and no need for a benzine ear wash ;) I've never had the overflow problem but I pretty much always know how much fuel I will need when I fill...within a couple of litres anyway...
