That's a great quote. And the most important thing about the van is: I love it. I'd rather drive it than the new(ish) Passat, (except when it hits about 100 degrees, then I wish my Vanagon A/C worked better!)
Also, it has character that most other vehicles lack.
The interesting thing is that this is the second car I've owned where the PO was as anal as I am. In both cases, they kept detailed records, notes, and receipts, as I do. Also, both cars just happened to be about the same age (the BMW was a 1988, and the Westy is an 87) Therefore, I'm able to see the long term costs.
To me, keeping the repair/maintenance records is a big selling point, because when I meet a seller that keeps detailed records, I know they at least cared somewhat about the vehicle.
