Michael- You have to hold down the buttons for a while sometimes a few minutes. Once it changes from SAFe to 1000, you must enter the correct code . If the wrong code is entered, after three attempts this model H-5 is permanently locked up until a electronics shop unlocks it. Following the procedure outlined in the Bentley Manual, press "AM" button and "Scan" button simultaneously. The code could not be entered because the screen would not change from "SAFe". I tried disconnecting the power again. No change. I tried leaving the radio on for an hour (several times), still no change. It will not allow me to enter the code. I searched the Archives and found several others who had the same problem, but was unable to find anyone with the soluton. The van is for sale, and I am not going to replace the unit, but would like to have it operable for the next owner. Help!
