More on Engines

You might try finding a local VW engine specialist - aircooled - and see if he will rebuild the engine for you. Keeping it local gives yo a bit more control, and if there is a problem you don't have to deal long distance to get satisfaction. This is the direction I went when I had my WBX in my 88 GL rebuilt. I have been very satisfied with the results. The engine itself cost me $1500, but of course then there was the R&R that cost additional. But $1500 for a rebuilt engine with all new valves, seats, cam, rings, pistons, bearings, and seals, is hard to beat.

The only thing I wish I had done different was to have counter weights welded to the the crank, and have the complete rotating assembly balanced as a unit. ANYTHING you can do to reduce vibration will extend the life of the engine.

Regards,

John Rodgers 88 GL Driver
