Hey John,

I experienced cruise control trouble recently. It turned out to be a leak in the line going to the pedals. Here is a quick way to check these. The clutch and brake pedals disengage the cruise system. There are two systems which back each other up to ensure the pedal disengage works. One is electrical and one is vacuum.

In the engine compartment, towards the back of the vehicle on the pass side is the vacuum pump for the cruise control. You will see a vacuum line that leaves the pump, and goes into a Y connector. One side goes to the vacuum servo in the engine compartment, the other side goes to the pedals. Remove the Y and hook the line going to the servo directly to the pump.

If the cruise now works, you have a leak in the line going to the pedals.

Also, before you try to engage the system, put your foot under the clutch and brake pedals and lift up to ensure they returned fully. If either one does not, the system will not engage.

Z
