I'll toss a spare alternator in the van, since that seems to be the most frequent Burning Man vehicular nightmare (dont know why, no good reason for it). There's usually a VW camp (you can find them on the map given out at the entrance) where, not surprisingly, you can find mechanics. I've had assistance from them in past years with other vehicles (RVs rented by friends, mostly). If anyone gets into a jam with a VW, that's obviously the place to go.

In my asking around, someone else told he always ties a tarp to cover the underside of his van to keep some of the dust from encrusting the parts closest to the ground.
